CDC NVSR final birth data. 39.8% of all U.S. births in 2022 were to unmarried mothers. Louisiana (54.7%), Mississippi (54.3%), and New Mexico (52.6%) lead. Utah lowest at 20.3%.

CDC BRFSS 2024 data. Not a single state is below 25%. West Virginia (41.4%), Mississippi (40.4%), and Louisiana (39.2%) lead. Colorado lowest at 25.0%. Tennessee excluded due to insufficient data.

NCES data. Women surpassed men in college enrollment in 1979. By 2022 they outnumbered men by 2.25 million. In 1970 men were 57% of undergrads — today women are 57%. Projections show the gap widening further through 2031.

CDC/NCHS provisional data. Nevada leads at 3.8 per 1,000; Louisiana lowest at 0.9. The national rate has fallen 55% since the 1981 peak of 5.3. Five states do not report to the federal system.

ABA & Justia 50-state survey. 9 community property states (mandatory 50/50 split) vs. 37 equitable distribution states where judges divide assets by discretion. 5 states allow opt-in community property by agreement.
Alimony Law by State — 2024
ABA Statutes 2024. 45 states + DC still allow permanent indefinite alimony. Only Florida (2023 reform) and Massachusetts have abolished it. Texas, Indiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, and North Carolina impose the strictest eligibility restrictions.

Justia 50-state survey. 41 states use Income Shares (both parents' income considered). Alaska, Mississippi, Nevada, and Wisconsin use a flat percentage of the non-custodial parent's income only — ignoring what the custodial parent earns.
