Source: CDC Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), 2024 ·
Prevalence of self-reported obesity (BMI ≥ 30) among U.S. adults · Tennessee excluded due to insufficient data
What this measures: The percentage of adults in each state with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or higher, based on self-reported height and weight from the CDC's annual telephone survey. In 2024, not a single U.S. state had an obesity rate below 25%. The South and Midwest carry the heaviest burden — West Virginia (41.4%), Mississippi (40.4%), and Louisiana (39.2%) lead the nation. Colorado (25.0%) and DC (25.5%) remain the lowest. Tennessee is excluded due to insufficient sample data.
