ABORTION COUNTS BY STATE — 2023, 2024 & 2025
Source: Guttmacher Institute Monthly Abortion Provision Study ·
Clinician-provided abortions by state of occurrence · Includes procedural, medication, and telehealth provision · Released March 2026
What this measures: The estimated number of clinician-provided abortions in each state, counted by state of occurrence — where the procedure took place, not where the patient lives. States like Kansas (66%), New Mexico (63%), and Illinois (37%) serve large numbers of out-of-state patients from neighboring ban states. 13 states had total abortion bans in effect by end of 2025. Counts in ban states reflect telehealth provision under shield law protections. Toggle between 2023, 2024, and 2025 to see shifts following Dobbs.
